I have another thing to cross off my bucket list and my 1,000 places you need to see before you die journal; The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta! This event started as a few balloons in a mall parking lot and has now evolved into a giant event where around over 500 balloons launch into the sky and thousands of visitors attend. The event runs for two weeks straight and draws visitors from all over the world.
We were awake and out the door before the sunrise and it was a cold and cloudy morning. Due to the difficult weather the day that we went many balloons didn't launch, and we were unable to ride inside a basket (which is totally okay, because we will be headed back soon for a ride above northern New Mexico!). I had never seen a hot air balloon so close up before, and it was such a fun an interesting experience. The crowds excitement could be felt, and there was a spectacular view of the mountains in the background. It was unlike anything I have ever experienced
The west is quickly becoming one of my favorite destinations in the USA. The atmoshpere, the culture, the people; it all makes for a really special trip.
